What is an infrared sauna? 

Infrared saunas use infrared wavelengths to penetrate deep within the tissue, muscle and bones. Unlike traditional saunas that use heated rocks to increase the temperature of the air around you making it difficult to breathe, an infrared sauna uses invisible infrared wavelengths that mimic the way the sun produces heat to heat your core - making it a much more comfortable sauna experience. By penetrating deep into your body, these wavelengths encourage your core temperature to slowly rise allowing your body to gently remove the build up of unwanted toxins in your system.

Why should i use an infrared sauna? 

Scientists have established that infrared waves are beneficial to the human body because they are easily absorbed, stimulating the lymphatic, immune and cardiovascular systems. Infrared saunas may be beneficial for a range of health conditions including:

  • Detoxification;

  • Improve skin tone;

  • Support with skin conditions such as acne, eczema and dermatitis;

  • Muscle fatigue and recovery;

  • Water retention;

  • Energy production;

  • Weight loss;

  • Immune boosting; and,

  • Stress relief and mental health (including seasonal depression).

Can I bring a friend?

You can definitely bring a friend to your sauna session. We have three 2-person saunas and one larger sauna which can accommodate 3 friends. We charge an extra $15 per session per person, if you bring a friend. 

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes. We have a strict 6 hour cancelation policy. If you do miss an appointment, cancel or reschedule an appointment within 6 hours, you will lose the session.

Are the sauna rooms private? 

Yes, our sauna rooms are 100% private and secluded. You can select which room you would prefer depending on availability. The room will be allocated to you for the entire time of your booking. Each room is fitted with a stool, shelf and hook for you to hang your bag/clothing items.


All of our saunas integrate the full spectrum infrared technology into their functionality - however, not all saunas were created equal. Our large/yoga saunas are able to fit the length of a yoga mat in them or three people seated quite comfortably. Book the large/yoga sauna for yourself to do your own slow heated flow or share some downtime with a few friends. We charge an additional $5 for use of the yoga sauna, plus our standard $15 per extra person per session.

What should i wear during my session? 

All rooms are private so we welcome you to wear whatever you feel most comfortable in - which can be nothing at all. Please remember to sit on a towel during your session. 

Should I shower during the session if I get hot?

No, we do not recommend showering mid-way through an infrared sauna session as this will immediately reduce your core body temperature and halt the detoxification process. If you don't mind being a little sweaty, we recommend waiting 30 minutes after a session to shower. Your body may continue to sweat for at least 30 minutes after a sauna session so best to wait. 

What should i bring to my session?

Bring a towel, a change of clothing, and a water bottle. We have towels for hire for $3. Leif Botanicals body wash and shampoo are provided in all our bathrooms for you to use and we also offer complimentary filtered water for guests. We have plenty of reading materials, magazines and books to read.

Who should be careful when using an infrared sauna? 

  • Children under the age of 18;

  • People above the age of 55;

  • Anyone with cardiovascular conditions;

  • Individuals prone to bleeding;

  • Pregnant women should avoid using the infrared sauna; and

  • Individuals suffering from chronic health conditions should always consult with their physician prior to use.

If you are unsure about using an infrared sauna, always consult with your doctor or physician first. 

How are the saunas cleaned?

We clean the saunas after each use with organic and natural based products. The saunas are made with Canadian cedar wood, which is naturally antibacterial. Infrared lighting and the sauna temperature are also natural disinfectants. 

How often should i use the infrared sauna? 

We recommend at least upwards of twice a week. It can depend on your goal or condition and you can use it daily if you wish. You can build it into your routine like you would exercise. If you are using the infrared sauna for different health protocols (e.g. a cleanse or detoxification program), it may help to sauna more frequently.  If you have any questions at all about our saunas, don't hesitate to contact us or just ask our friendly staff.

Do you have shower facilities? 

Yes we showers on site. In our Byron Bay and Melbourne studios, we invite you to simply move across to the showers for your post-sauna rinse, providing you with Leif botanicals skincare. Our Bondi studio offers either in-room shower facilities or a separate shower/bathroom.
